Your scarf

I found your scarf
It broke my last fragment of peace
Tears welled up at once,
I collapsed to my knees

I crushed it in my grip
And pulled it to my face
Searching for something tangible,
Even the slightest trace

It had to hold a piece of you,
It would bring you back again
In the fibers of the wool,
I’d find your scent or feel your skin

Yet I came up empty,
But for tears falling anew
If only you were here,
You’d tell me just what I should do

I found your scarf
It broke my last fragment of peace
There’s nothing in that fabric,
just these haunting memories.
